The Sailmakers - XS NOIZE – Unsigned Showcase #10

At XS Noize, new music is dear to our hearts and we believe that genuinely talented fresh artists deserve a platform to share their material with the world. As such, we will now be showcasing one unsigned act every week, hand picked from submissions by Tom Day for the world to hear. Great news for all you audiophiles out there, but more importantly for those who’s voices deserve to be lifted from the crowd.

Artist: The Sailmakers

For Fans Of: Interpol, Beck, The Stone Roses

In Their Own Words:

The Sailmakers are Ryan Madden (Vocals, Lead Guitar), Tess Donovan (Vocals, Synths), Richard Furness (Bass) and Mark Redman (Drums). Loosely formed in 2008 from a collection of Keighley musicians, with some changes in members and configurations along the way, one thing remains consistent – their passion for sound and creativity. Written by Ryan and Tess, ‘Vines’ takes a contemporary spin on the synth driven sounds of the past. Comprising of unique and infinitely surprising melodies, this LP is set to make its mark on the new music scene after its release on 14th March, 2016.

‘Vines’ was recorded and produced by Ryan at The Sailmakers’ purpose built ‘Delicious Recording Studio’, in Keighley, West Yorkshire. Formerly a joiner’s workshop, the studio was transformed into a creative haven for song writing and experimentation. Featuring Lee Southall (The Coral) and championed by the likes of Michael Head (Shack), this long awaited LP is the product of devotion, hibernation, driven by change.

Why Tom chose The Sailmakers for the showcase:

While they didn’t make a direct request for this, Mark (XSNoize Editor) had a press pack from them promoting their LP and he was impressed and so was I. On finding out they were unsigned they made an obvious choice for the showcase. Their mix of synth, guitar and drums produces a poppy, 80’s edged sound but their altogether more serious songwriting than their peers makes for a great listen.
