Liverpool singer-songwriter, Mel Bowen, brings colour to his sound with elements of folk, New York soul, the jazz of Montmartre pavement cafes, and the heat of Ipanema evenings. His instinct with an idea played out in shifting time signatures, luscious warm melodies, laced through with Bert Jansch guitar picking, Tijuana brass and breathy sax lines. All this is given extra soul warmth by the electric piano and vocal harmonies of long-term collaborator Emily Valerio.
On The Wrong Side is taken from ‘Everyday’s A Holiday’ – a six-track EP. Listening to it is like bathing in a Merseyside Truffaut movie.
