JOEY FOURR SHARES NEW VIDEO FOR 'DOLPHINS' - watch

London odd-pop trio JOEY FOURR have shared the moonwalking, bin-diving, pop tart squeezing video for new single, ‘My Dolphins’. The track is taken from their debut album, TO THE FLOORR set to be released through MÏLK Records (Shopping, Skinny Girl Diet, Woolf) on 1st April. Noisey say, “everything about it is tailor-made for feeling the entire spectrum of positive emotion at once, excluding the occasional pang of hair envy”. Watch it below…

The video was directed by Joey, Jack and Moema of the band, and produced by Chloe Thorne. The delicious american food snack appears to be a recurring motif running throughout the artwork for JOEY FOURR’s debut album and makes an appearance in the video, yet the reason behind its inclusion is still a mystery.

Joey’s thoughts on ideas behind the video :

“I definitely knew I wanted a contrast to the videos I had made before which were made working in Super 8mm and VHS formats. This made me feel comfortable and confident because the texture of both VHS and Super 8mm is pleasing on the eye irregardless of the content, so you kinda get tricked into thinking it’s good y’know? Yet with digital SLR stuff it’s all super clean and crisp and scary and I had little confidence in filming using a Digital SLR camera so I wanted to challenge myself I suppose. After watching it back I’ve realised it’s kinda just about exposing a part of myself I can’t express on stage but I believe is the part of me which performed and recorded the songs.”

Forming in 2012, JOEY FOURR hasn’t stopped once; playing shows in Japan with Umez, recording and releasing 11 EPs through various DIY labels (Art Is Hard, Reeks of Effort, Bad Paintings, Icecapades, Tigre Discs), and developing their songs by playing live with fellow DIY friends Shopping, Feature, Ravioli Me Away, Primetime, Trust Fund and King of Cats.

TO THE FLOORR was recorded in the basement of music venue Power Lunches, Dalston and Good Job in Bermondsey – a studio arts space each member had a studio in, before the bulldozers came to tear it all down late 2014.

The new collection of songs sees Joey’s songwriting shake off his earlier fuzz drenched EPs, now swimming in an iridescent sea of chorus and bubbles (and he wants you to join him). Inspiration in midst of recording was found in the music of Alain Souchon, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Mykki Blanco, Jonathan Richman, Haruomi Hosono and Michael Jackson.

Centred on ex-Tubelord Joseph Prendergast, JOEY FOURR is also Moe Meade (Dog Legs) and Jack Barraclough (Halo Halo).
